Short Bio

I joined the Data and Web Science Group in February 2013 as "junior-professor" and hold since February 2016 the Chair of Information Systems III (Enterprise Data Analysis) as full professor (W3) at the University of Mannheim, where I lead the Natural Language Processing and Information Retrieval group. Previously, I was a postdoctoral research fellow (assegnista di ricerca) at the Department of Computer Science of "Sapienza" University of Rome and research associate (Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiter) at the Institute for Computational Linguistics of the University of Heidelberg, Germany. I earned my PhD at the Institute for Natural Language Processing of the University of Stuttgart, Germany - while being hosted as a visiting scientist at EML Research gGmbH, Heidelberg (now HITS) - where I graduated with a dissertation on taxonomic knowledge acquisition from Wikipedia and its application to lexical semantic and discourse phenomena such as computing semantic relatedness and coreference resolution.
